I recently got to interview Adam Baranello after years of following his career. From before his first album till now and his upcoming third album which may be due this year or next, no date has been given but I’m excited. One thing about Baranello’s music is you either love it or hate it but that’s only my opinion. Sit back, relax and read what this star has to say about his art.
How did you become who you are today?
By waking up every morning and being myself… haha
I have been able to build a career by just getting up and working hard every single day to push something that I believe in. It is just honest hard work and being consistent. Having a few good people around to help and having a clear idea of what I am trying to do helps too.
What inspired some of the songs from your first album “From Scratch ” which you released yourself independently.
I am a very honest writer. I write about what is on my mind and things that I am feeling, so you definitely get a glimpse of who I am in my music. My first album had a lot to do with Love and with relationships.
Now on your current album the first song “We’re All Gonna Die” and could you please explain the lyrics and the video?
“We’re All Gonna Die” is a very honest song about how I live my life and what I believe in. It is a song that simply points out that we are all going to die so while we are alive we should live and love and stand up for what you believe in. Hopefully at least one person that hears it will be influenced to want to change the world or do something great with their life. If that happens I am happy…
The video is a visual interpretation of the song, giving you a glimpse into what AJB is all about and making a little bit of a statement…With my videos it is also important to showcase the physical side with the choreography.
Before I started watching your videos I only known you as a singer, then later i found out you were a dancer. When did you go into dancing?
I started dancing seriously in College. I had a goal to be a performer. To sing and dance. That meant learning how to do everything that I needed to learn to be the best performer that I can be…
After College I started the A&G Dance Company with Gail Benevente with the goal being to not only perform and choreograph but also influence kids and adults to embrace movement and be comfortable with dancing.
In New York you’re basically creating a movement. How did that come to begin?
I believe that if you get up and work hard everyday then good things will happen. I get up everyday and work my tail off trying to get better at what I do, and putting it out there for the world to see. That has lead to really good things and some really cool people liking what I do. I am truly and completely independent so to see people respond and support it is extremely awesome!!
I am grateful.
Could please tell us about your team, the one I want to know more about is Lindsey Jennings.
There are a handful of people that are a part of AJB, and they all go far and beyond what I could ever expect of anyone. I am so honored and lucky to have the people that I have involved and believing in this.
Lindsey Jennings is an awesome artist that I work with. She is an awesome person and she is going to be Great!! I am excited about it.
I am excited about all the great things and great people that are involved with AJB.
When did you get into fashion?
I was always into fashion, but I got into the fashion aspect out of necessity really. I was making hand made T-Shirts for fun for a while so when I needed to raise money to record and put myself out there as an artist, I jumped on the myspace energy (2005) and posted a pic of a T to see if anyone wanted to buy it. Within a few minutes I had an order from across the country. From there it has developed into a full line of original designed hand made T’s and Scarves.
What do you want to show the world with your art?
I want to show the world who I am and what I have to say. That is all.. Hopefully some people like it. It’s original art, if people respond to it then it means something.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years I see myself still putting forward original art and pushing myself and others to say something as well. Obviously the goal is to grow and build this all up as best as I can. If I am working hard good things will happen.
Are you working on any new material? and have you thought about touring?
I am working on a lot of new material and projects. It is a really exciting time. I will be finishing the music videos for my 2nd album and then putting out a new record. There will also be music with Lindsey Jennings…
As far as touring goes, I have been lucky enough to perform around the country a little bit. I would love to tour more, but it is hard when you are independent. However, I do have plans for bigger and better shows and some exciting concepts that are starting to get fleshed out.
